Tap-Tastic Melvin Gets Movin’ with Top Teenage Edinburgh Dancer
Rhythm & Blues legend Movin' Melvin Brown, aged 72, and 17-year-old Edinburgh tap dancer Tamzin Burgess got together to compare moves in the heart of the capital.
Movin' Melvin is not only performing a high-octane Fringe show, Chuck Berry Lives! but will be teaching Edinburgh folk the basics of tap at special classes this Saturday.
Melvin, from the USA, loves to dance with talented local people everywhere he goes on his worldwide tours – and was mightily impressed with Tamzin who this month won the Leigh Anderson Memorial Trophy and the Edinburgh Tap trophy and was second in the Tap World Cup in Germany in May.
The Dancing With The Star – Movin’ With Melvin masterclass, which offers a fun route to health and fitness, will take place at Assembly Checkpoint on Saturday, 19 August at 11am.
And for those who love it and want to carry on with classes there’s the Mary Phelan school, where Tamzin trained, which has been in Edinburgh for 40 years. And tap classes are also available at Dance Base, Scotland’s National Centre for Dance in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket.
