Celebrations got under way tonight with 35,000 people expected to turn out for the start of the Hogmanay festivities.

An estimated 8000 torchbearers, led by the Up Helly Aa Vikings from Shetland and more than 100 pipers illuminate the city streets from George IV Bridge to Calton Hill.
